Do you know OF Him? Do you know ABOUT Him? Or, do you KNOW Him, personally by EXPERIENCING Him?
You may have heard His name, you may know things about Him, about His teachings in the Bible. You may have heard of the miracles He performed and the trials of faith He endured during His time on earth.
There are many Christian denominations that exist and are based off His teachings, each one slightly differing in historical perspective that formed their belief.
However, do YOU truly know the Son of Man? How does one truly get to know Jesus. The real Jesus. Not just the Jesus based off scriptures in the Bible. Truly KNOWING Jesus?
Let's start with this next question.
Can you honestly say you know a person based off what others have said? Or based off of what others have read or been told about that person then in turn told you about said person which formulated your very own opinion of that person?
Wouldn’t you want to investigate for yourself and draw your own conclusion? Especially when the stakes are as high as your eternal fate resting on that decision alone?
They say don’t judge a book by its cover. So, can you honestly say you “know” Jesus after your few short attempts at reading the Bible?
Better yet, the question to ask is, “have you experienced Jesus through the Holy Spirit?” Not many people can answer that question with a resounding yes.
I would argue most people, yes even Christians, "know of" Jesus. They "know about" Jesus, can recite scripture, read their Bible daily, go to church every week, and the list goes on.
And while all of doing those things are good, how many people who are believers in Christ actually spend time with Him?
How many believers in Christ prioritize quiet alone time with Jesus when they first wake up in the morning? Or just in general throughout your day and week, how much time do you dedicate being alone with Him? These question are not to pose judgment, rather, it is to provoke conscious thought to truly knowing Jesus.
Because just like any other relationship, how do you truly get to know someone without spending time with them? Wouldn't you invest your time, energy and attention to fully getting to know them if you are planning a future with them?
Even if you were just in the early stages of getting to know them, don't you go into that friendship with an open heart and open mind?
All these questions are the same when one truly wants to get to know the real Jesus. The truth Jesus. The Jesus you get to experience for yourself, draw your own opinion of Him and determine for yourself who He really is by your experience with Him.
But how would one know how to experience Jesus? What would experiencing Jesus entail? More importantly, what existential proof exists that validates our experience? One answer.
The Holy Spirit.
Jesus Christ is more than the stories told in the Bible. He is often spoken about in a past tense as the Bible is a historical artifact but Jesus should be spoken of and referred to in the present, because He is alive. I have experienced Jesus’ presence and it is through the Spirit that one can experience Him. After experiencing the Holy Spirit for the first time, I was never the same, nor was my life.
